Our Holiday Card

It’s a wacky all-night cram session for RRC President Jeff Zabudsky, after misinterpreting the family holiday card dilemma facing one his of colleagues.

Donkey Bonk…it’s fun to say

Here’s a video of a Donkey Bonk that one of my workmates caught on tape while on vacation. For those of you who came here expecting to see something other than a donkey being hit in the head with a soccer ball, sorry to disappoint…freaks.

Babies fight for kisses

Here’s a most delightfully weird promo for the Schick Quattro razor. Apparently there’s an actual game you can play based on this trailer as well.

How to tie a bow tie, direct from one of the pros

Saw Dickinson College president Bill Durden deliver a keynote at a conference the other day. Fantastic speaker, and apparently one of America’s biggest fans of the bow tie. Feel free to follow along at home while Bill offers his tips for tying the perfect bow tie knot (incidentally, this is by far Dickinson College’s most popular online video).

The Office On Strike

The Writers Guild of America is co-opting the popularity of “The Office” to spread the gospel about the Hollywood writers’ strike. Not sure I agree with them completely (for starters, there has to be some ridiculous conflicts of interest on a show where so many of the writers are also actors and/or producers) , but then I really don’t understand the issue that well. I suppose that’s the point of the video and related blog. Oh well…look, there’s Toby and Kelly and Ryan!

The times they are a-changin’

This one is sort of similar to the A Vision of Students Today video from a few weeks back. Another very interesting look at how our world is changing due to factors such as advances in technology and the rise of nations like China and India. Some great food for thought in here, especially for parents and teachers.

The cat with the bat

I can’t believe I’m about to follow up an Oprah video with one about a cute cartoon kitty. What’s happening to me? Next week is going to be all about pro wrestling and Chuck Norris.

Anyway, this funny little vid is called “Cat Man Do”, and it’s from Simon Tofield, an English animator who almost certainly has owned a cat at some point in his life.

University prof gives inspiring last lecture

I can’t believe I’m posting something from Oprah, but this is fairly inspirational stuff.

Apparently there’s a tradition in the academic world called “the last lecture,” the idea being that — hypothetically — if a prof knew he was going to die, and had one last lecture to give, what would he say? In September, Randy Pausch gave his “last lecture” to a packed hall at Carnegie Mellon University. However, for Pausch there’s nothing hypothetical about it, he’s dying of pancreatic cancer and has only been given a few months to live.

Pausch gave an abbreviated version of the lecture on Oprah a few weeks back. It’s incredible that a man in his situation can maintain such an optimistic view on life and the pursuit of dreams. And even for cynics, it’s hard not to get a bit choked up at very end.

[EDIT: It seems a little odd to me this video was pulled from YouTube the same day Oprah launched her own channel on the site. I think "O" needs a little advice on how the internet is working these days. Anyway, I'll hunt for another copy and post here if I find one. You can also view it over on Oprah's site.]

Macleans has more on Pausch’s lecture.

Amazing ending to college football game

It could be the best game of hot potato ever played. Check out the unbelievable ending to last Saturday’s NCAA Division III match between the Trinity Tigers and the Majors of Millsaps.

For those not keeping score at home, that was 15 LATERALS for a win on the last play of the game.
